Submitting an article to GFDQ – Instruction to Authors
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR AUTHORS
Geografia Fisica e Dinamica Quaternaria is a peer reviewed scientific journal which adheres to the code of conduct for publications produced by COPE: Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. It is mandatory that all parties involved – authors, editors and reviewers – are aware of and agree to the following ethical requisites.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Submit the paper as attached file in Word or PDF (preferred) format to gfdq@dst.unipi.it.
Figures and tables must be numbered and placed at the end of the text in separate pages. Please, note that the total size of any electronic submission should not exceed 10MB. Once the paper will be accepted for publication, high quality figures will be requested. Hard copy submission is possible in triplicate copies (original and two copies) directly to the Editor in Chief.
Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and unpublished and is not considered for publication elsewhere.
Two referees (at least) indicated by the Editorial Board will review the submitted paper. Acceptance or rejection of a paper is the responsibility of the Editor in Chief on the basis of the reviews. When a paper has been accepted for publication and is in its final form, the word file of the text and.JPG or .TIFF files of the figures must be sent to the Editor in Chief. All articles accepted for the publication become the copyright of the Journal.
TYPING
The paper should be typewritten with double spacing and wide margin. Words to be printed in italic should be underlined. All pages must be numbered. The title page should include the title, the name (s) of the author (s) and their affiliation. Each paper should be preceded by an abstract in English and by key-words in English. In addition the authors could insert an abstract and key words in the language of the Country in which the work has been carried out.
REFERENCE
The literature in the text should be inserted in brackets in full for single or dual authors (De Lorenzo & Dainelli, 1923) but (Almagià & alii , 1947) for multiple authors. Reference should be listed in alphabetical order at the end
of the paper in the following standar form:

Rovereto G. (1923) – Le forme della Terra. Trattato di Geologia Morfologica. Hoepli, Milano, 1190 pp.

In the reference all the authors should be named. The references should include only works quoted in the text.

FOOTNOTES
Avoid using footnotes if possible. However, if necessary, they should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers.
FIGURES
All figures must be suitable for reproduction without being retouched or redrawn, if not requested by the Editorial Board. The Editor in Chief reserves the right to reduce or enlarge illustrations. Check that all lettering will still be legible after the figures are reduced to fit the page. Photographs must be of good quality. The captions should be collected on a separated sheet. Colour figures will be accepted, however the cost will be charged to the author. For submission of digital images, each figure should be saved as separate file.
TABLES
Tables should be compiled on a separate sheet. They should be numbered consecutively with arabic numbers. A title should be provided for each table and they should be referred in the text.
UNITS
The metric system is to be used and CGS or MKS system. Abbreviated units are not followed by a full stop.
PROOF
The author (s) will receive one or two sets of page proofs in PDF format to be checked for printer’s error. The material must be returned to the publisher as soon as possible. A charge is made for any substantial alteration to the manuscript at this stage.
REPRINTS
When the article is accepted, the authors will receive an order form that must be returned with page proofs. The cost of reprints is yearly fixed. The journal gives a total of 25 reprints of each paper free of charge.
SHORT COMMUNICATION
The journal publishes also short communications, that must be four pages long (included figures and tables). The short communications will be reviewed only by one Referee. The print rules are the same as those for a normal paper.
