Abstract

There is presentation of a technique for the automatic identification of areas characterized by homogeneous placing of strata with respect to slope orientation. The model, which uses a «raster» type data structure, consists of the studied combination of 4 grids which represent respectively: - areas with homogenous immersion of strata - areas with homogenous strata inclination - areas with homogenous slope orientation - areas with homogenous slope angle The technique presented supplies, automatically, numerical and cartographic data regarding one of the fundamental parameters used for the production of thematic maps of the types «slope stability» or «geological hazard». The experiment, carried out within the context of ARC/INFO, was done covering a significant area of the «Carta Geologica dell'Isola d’Elba» (Geological Map of the Island of Elba) (CNR, 1967).
