Abstract

The Ventina Glacier is situated in the Disgrazia Massif (Central Alps). Here are examined the fluctuations of its snout from 1924 to 1983. From 1924 to 1970 the snout receded about 950 m, but readvanced 100 m from 1973 to the present. Then the data of the glacier are connected to the thermic and pluviometric data of the meteorological station of Sondrio from 1915 to 1980. The regressions between the fluctuations of the snout of the glacier and the thermic and pluviometric differences compared to the average of the whole period are considered with special emphasis. By means of the highest correlation coefficient, it follows that the delay between weather causes and snout fluctuations is ten years.
