Geomorphological observations on calanchi and biancane in the Calabria region

Abstract

In order to probe and to carry on the research into morphological differences between « calanchi » and « biancane » typical forms of erosion on clay, we took into consideration Pliocene and Pleistocene clay grounds in Calabria. In this paper we can confirm that the mineralogical and textural characteristics, noted previously, between the clay of the two forms of erosion are different. Moreover, for the first time in this branch of research, we have verified that biancane-clay has a higher degree of plasticity than the calanchi type.
