Considerazioni paleoclimatiche in base allo studio mineralogico delle argille subappennine pleistoceniche, affioranti presso Montescaglioso (Matera)

The Authors have carried out a study concerning the clay minerals of some samples collected along a stratigraphic section of the " Argille subappennine", outcropping near the Eastern side of Fossa Bradanica. This study mainly concerns the definition of the paleoclimatic features of the abovementioned sediments. The analysis of mineralogical and sedimentological characters of clay associations have allow to build indicative curves of climatic variations occurred in marine early Pleistocene deposits of Fossa Bradanica. Above mentioned curves have been compared with paleoclimatic curve obtained from CIARANFI & PENNETTA (1977) by means of statistical analyses of planctonic Foraminifera on the same samples.
