Abstract

In the paper, the result of observations carried out on water courses in the central-southern Marche (Potenza, Chienti, Tenna, Aso, Tesino and Tronto) are illustrated. In particular, the investigation focuses on recent and present geomorphologic evolution affecting middle-lower reaches of stream branches. The study shows that anthropic factors have a primary role in activating intense and rapid erosion processes and, to a lesser extent, sedimentation. The massive extraction of solid materials, occuring over many years, is believed to be the main cause for the deepening recorded in the river beds examined and variations in the coast-line corresponding to river mouths.
