Sedimentological and micromorphological analysis of paleosols on the « main terrace » of Val di Chiana (Arezzo - Italy) were carried out. The geomorphological unit is composed of two overlapping fluvial sediments of different origin in their parent material. The two sediments are characterised by soils of different evolution. The older sediment (Colle) stream deposited, dated back to cata-Riss, is the parent material of an Alfisol weathered starting in the Riss-Würm interglacial. The more recent sediment (Mucchio II), resulting from the deposition of a meandering river in the cata-Würm, is characterized by an Aquic Hapludalf. Some paleogeographic conclusions are obtained.
