Abstract

We are reporting the find of an eolian deposit similar to loess within stratified slope detritus of cryonival origin in the north-eastern sector of the Sibillini Mountains (Umbria-Marche Apennines). Laboratory analyses of the sediments together with the geomorphological characteristics of the area suggest that sedimentation took place during the Upper Pleistocene, in a cold and arid environment, the source being mostly local and, to a lesser extent, coming from adjacent volcanic areas.
